Martin Hurst was an octochamp in and the champion of Series 75, as well as a contestant in Series 35. He is also an Apterite.

Hurst first appeared in Series 35, losing to quarter-finalist Robert Jones. He returned nearly 20 years later to become an octochamp with 830 points, five centuries and the number 1 seed position for the finals. The third game of his run saw him join the select club of Countdowners to have won a televised game by more than 100 points.

In the finals, Hurst achieved two more centuries to defeat Tom Stephens and Andrew Fenton, before winning a close final against Andrew Macleod to become series champion.
