David Stainer was a contestant in Series 47.
He pipped Peter Coutts by just two points in Coutts' eighth game, and went on to make three centuries before losing to Cyril Cohen.

He has appeared on several other quiz shows, most notably University Challenge, BrainTeaser, Fifteen to One, 100%, One To Win, Grand Slam, Only Connect, Cleverdicks and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, winning £64,000 in the last of these. In 2019, he won the 66th series of Brain of Britain and, in 2021, he won the "Brain of Brains" title. He has also taken part in the British, European and World Quiz Championships on numerous occasions.
