Mark Allen was an octochamp and quarter-finalist in Series 92. He was a retiree from Upper Dean, Bedfordshire, which was incorrectly stated by Colin Murray as being in neighbouring Cambridgeshire.

Mark made his debut on 3 November, kicking off with a victory via a crucial conundrum and the teapot against incumbent champion and Apterite, Joel Lane-Smith. He then followed that up with seven further triumphs but only the singular century, which was a high score of 106 achieved in his fourth game; he notably managed to steer clear of further crucial conundrums in the remainder of his heats.

He also managed to spot two nine-letter-words; those being PEACHIEST during his fifth game and COUNTABLE in his eighth; said-game challenger, Tony Mahoney, had kept right with him until Mark struck the prior mentioned killer blow. The game was ultimately over before the last numbers round, despite Mark missing it. He was anointed as "The Captain" by Colin due to his very calm demeanor throughout his heat game run, and secured octochampdom with 722 points. He was also notably the only finalist in the series to have not had a previous run on the show.
