- 33 Numbers round recap question
The so-called "1000th episode"
James, there is an episode here Episode 1003 which began Series 20, and was made to celebrate 1000 editions of Countdown. None of the round details have been filled in, but they are on Mike's website here: http://www.thecountdownpage.com/1000.htm
Not sure if you want to do this or not, as I am not very good at filling in episode grids, and when I have done them before nobody has come along behind and filled in the maximums etc.
Thanks Vande 10:28, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- Best way to fill in episode grids is to use the recapwriter on cdb, then copy and paste the output into the wiki. All the maxes are done automatically (assuming current dictionary, though). Drawoh 10:31, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
- It is slightly hard to do just from that, since I don't have the DC words or methods that were used in numbers games, so it would still be fairly incomplete. JRTerrier24 18:11, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well I've attempted it myself now. Round details, with all the letters, declarations, numbers and targets is better than no table at all! Was my first time using the Recap Writer, and although it's quite nice, it would be good if you could alter it for irregular games like this one which have different amounts of numbers rounds, conundrums etc.. Vande 10:05, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Identity
Are you and DJ Pomfret and 80.2.140.146 all the same person? Or do you just work as a team? Vande 20:54, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- Me and DJ Pomfret and the other one are not the same person and we certainly aren't in a team at the moment. JRTerrier24 21:02, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Specials
Hi James. I see you've put the Kirk v Chris special as episode 4999 on the Series 62 page. It's already set up as episode 26, and should be kept quite apart from the Series 62, as it doesn't form part of the series. I know there are some anomolies earlier, for example when the junior competition has been included within a series, but it's better to get the present set of specials correctly set up. --Drawoh 23:49, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Your recent edits
Hi, I see that on a few recaps you've changed the arithmetical symbols from × and ÷ to plain x's and slashes. Any particular reason? Or is it just a dummy edit to bring the pages to my attention so that I polish them? :) -- smjg 23:24, 15 April 2010 (BST)
- That reason you mentioned. A nice bit of polishing wouldn't go a miss to those areas. Although the main reason is that most of them are missing "Carol Vorderman as arithmetician" credits. JRTerrier24 09:11, 16 April 2010 (BST)
- Now I'm confused - you completely undid the polishing of Episode 4360. -- smjg 20:22, 22 May 2010 (BST)
Episode 5058
The reason I did that recap is because I had some time to kill, so I did it simultaneously while it was on 4 +1, and inevitably I missed some stuff. I had a guess, and I watched that ep again on YouTube (in the Shows bit). The Doctor 0954, 12 June 2010

Thanks for doing those onto YouTube. I was going to but never found the time, busy with my dream series. Matt Smith 2134, 12 June 2010 BST

Thanks James. :) Hadn't realised that recap writer is still putting them out as 62.--Drawoh 19:18, 5 July 2010 (BST)

- Not quite sure what this is all about. I don't believe that any part of the Wiki is the province of any individual or individuals. Indeed, on the front page there is an invitation for anybody to edit any page (other than protected pages). So feel free to try your hand anywhere, Doctor. If you run into any problems at all, just ask, and someone will soon be on hand to sort things out. Pretty well any of the authors here, even those who seem to have a monopoly of certain sections of the Wiki, would be doing very little if they held back, thinking that they might be treading on someones toes.--Drawoh 09:12, 20 July 2010 (BST)

Hi, whatever you're using to put up recaps has a bug - it's categorising 9-round games as 15-round games. -- smjg 00:19, 6 September 2010 (BST)
- Yeah, I know, hence I'm having to manually return them to 9 soon as I paste them. A bit of a bummer really.JRTerrier24 12:29, 6 September 2010 (BST)
GRRR!
As you've been told already, on the front page there is an invitation for anybody to edit any page, so you can't stop JohnnyCanuck from doing Series 28 just because he's not booked on the forum. So, if JohnnyCanuck is reading this, then feel free to do Series 28 as James just wants stuff to be as orderly as the soldiers in Afghanistan.
So, James, don't be so harsh on ordinary folk like me and JohnnyCanuck, don't tell him to spend his precious minutes on the forum, and just because you don't like me or JohnnyCanuck (by the way, why do you revert ALL my edits, even when they are useful?)
So Johnny, go and do it, against James' will if you have to. More recaps are better than organised recaps.
Speaking of which, I need to do some which I booked on the forum. --The Doctor 17:17, 21 September 2010 (BST)
- I think you'll find that organised is better than more on here. If you want to be messy, return to your play pen and do that, but we like to keep things neat and tidy on here. I have nothing against Johnny doing recaps, but we do want a copy on the forum as well.JRTerrier24 20:26, 21 September 2010 (BST)

A couple questions (Series 28 & 33?)
In order to recap games on the forum (and therefore to claim Series 28), is it necessary to actually join? And if so, can I use a pseudonym for this? I know the higher-ups want most of us to use real names, but I thought this might be an exception because it's for the benefit of the wiki. Also, does it matter that I'm doing Series 28 out of order with the rest of the series? If not, I might try to claim part of Series 33 as well.
These messages were on my own talk page earlier but I find it a bit selfish talking to myself. :-) JohnnyCanuck 13:54, 3 October 2010 (BST)
- Johnny, it doesn't matter if you do it out of order, but if you can inform someone, then please do. You can join the forum under a pseudonym, although virtually no-one does. I have no problem with that at all, and I'm sure the others don't either.:) :D JRTerrier24 14:25, 3 October 2010 (BST)
Episode S(25)
Where did you get this data from? -- smjg 01:35, 24 October 2010 (BST)
- Surely, if this episode hasn't been broadcast, information about the game, including the final score, should not be given here.--Drawoh 09:14, 24 October 2010 (BST)
- Well I suppose as Charlie has put the details on the forum, there's no problem in giving them here.--Drawoh 09:59, 24 October 2010 (BST)
Tom qualified or not
Glad you can count better than I can. :) --Drawoh 20:49, 24 October 2010 (BST)
Episode 2530
OK, done. But it would still be nice to know why you went out of your way to untidy it rather than just implementing the other words changes, and why you added an obvious mistake in the process.... -- smjg 23:47, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- The obvious mistake was the usual error that has happened before with my method of creating these recaps. JRTerrier24 23:52, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Jeremy Clarkson
I would like this to be deleted, if you can find an authority, because there are many other "Apto-DC-Guests" who have not appeared, Al Murray as one example. The Doctor 19:43, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Just wanted to say thanks for the great job you're doing keeping the series page up-to-date. It's much appreciated, especially now I don't have much time to work on the wiki myself. Charlie 16:05, 12 May 2011 (BST)

Is the C4Countdown twitter not a reliable source?
A note for your diaries, we are actually back on air Monday August 22nd not Aug 15th as originally planned. Thanks.
This would suggest to me that the special episodes planned for 15th/16th August were pushed back a week if not scrapped completely. Apologies if I've missed something blindingly obvious, I don't visit Countdown fan forums. JS 19:24, 2 August 2011 (BST)

John Parrott
OK, something has gone severely wrong here. The final recordings are on Nov 8/9 (off the top of my head) yet the c4countdown twitter thread said (13:53, 25 October 2011):
Who says otherwise? The Doctor 20:08, 28 October 2011 (BST)
- My usual source says it's McGowan. But if that's proof, then I'll happily change back. JRTerrier24 20:10, 28 October 2011 (BST)
- Which contestant says that then? Or was it not a contestant? I only actually put John Parrott in for those dates as there was a gap at the time. Definitely before the finals, by my calculation - they must be having a filming break because all the dates don't add up if there is 5 programmes recorded per day. You've been there! The Doctor 20:16, 28 October 2011 (BST)

Featured articles & Did You Know
I've thought of some new ideas for Did you know and Featured articles, but nobody is replying to my messages. I think it would be a good idea to make new ones this month, especially since there are opportunities to write markups for a lot of famous Countdowners now (last time the featured article was updated, the recaps only went back to Series 49). The ideas I came up with don't have to be supported, they're just suggestions. JohnnyCanuck 11:06, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Sort keys
Hi, are you still unfamiliar after all these years with the concept of category sort keys, or just confused?
[[Category:Special episodes|0.1003]]
The purpose of this is to cause it to be sorted as "0.1003" under Category:Special episodes. This is so that the episodes are listed in this category in chronological order. By removing it, you have caused it to be listed between Episode S10 and Episode S11, which is nonsense. — Stewart (talk) 01:44, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
"She asked for her page to be blanked out."
By what means did you receive this request? And would you care to show it to me?
Is there a policy somewhere of honouring such ridiculous requests? I can understand pages being deleted at the request of the subject, but blanking them completely like this doesn't make sense at all. — Stewart (talk) 01:36, 9 May 2012 (BST)
- She sent me a request via my Facebook page, she just said she didn't want any association with this any more, because of her personal problems. JRTerrier24 09:59, 9 May 2012 (BST)
- Then delete the page – don't just blank it. Or if you don't have the necessary editing privileges to delete a page, at least leave a note there along the lines of "Information removed at subject's request, pending deletion". — Stewart (talk) 15:44, 9 May 2012 (BST)
- Well, I thought blanking it would delete it, I can't actually delete a page. JRTerrier24 18:36, 9 May 2012 (BST)
- You just did it again. Blanking pages completely is inappropriate behaviour. (I don't know why the software allows it.) Somebody will come to the site, find a blank page and wonder what the hell is going on. For this reason, every page needs to have either some content or an explanation of its having no content. — Stewart (talk) 14:28, 15 July 2012 (BST)

Rawlo's conundrums [sic] on Episode 5623
Time is continuous data: it is impossible to be accurately measured per se. It is different from discrete data (number of doors etc.). Is it not good to be accurate? The Doctor 17:38, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- It can be good to be accurate, but for stuff like this, just doing it "as it's seen" will suffice. JRTerrier24 22:10, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Series 68 rejig
Sorry, completely lost on your thinking of "extra clarity" here. It was better as 68 being the championship and 69 being the next one. See Series 33 for an example... The Doctor 00:14, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- I do too, but Damian says that it and the next series are both part of 68, so there you go. JRTerrier24 18:26, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- It therefore needs to be in the "series link" as a Championship of Champions. The Doctor 21:50, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- Well, it isn't really. Damian did say that it IS part of Series 68, so it's strictly not a CoC. JRTerrier24 22:54, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- So this is more like the Ladies' Championship. They therefore need to have a mention and a link but removed from the series link. The Doctor 21:13, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, definitely of a similar ilk. JRTerrier24 00:32, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

One-man band!
Just popped onto here a few days ago to, primarily, look up Kwaku Sapong, and couldn't help but log in and notice some things needed doing. *Firstly, congrats on the one-man band you appear to be running on this site.
- Secondly: this page. Ever since Charlie blocked IP addresses the bot, running off an IP address, which automagically updated it, no longer does so. I had a look at it just now and saw that it was out of date by over three years. Having now updated it, there are two questions we need answering, aside from changing "checking" to "complete". Firstly, I remember having a discussion (it might have been with myself) as to whether or not Category:Recaps with missing or incomplete Teatime Teasers should count as incomplete recaps. I always said no, as the gameplay is still there in full, and that's not too important. However, what do you think? Secondly, is it reasonable to update this page once every year (for example)? I don't see any solution, as Channel 4 won't release them under the FOI act.
- Thirdly: The external links on each series are now somewhat defunct with The Countdown Page having not been updated since Series 65.
- Fourthly: Series pages and biographies. Some are deadly serious and stubby (Kwaku Sapong), some have much more content Scott Mearns (which I spent about one whole summer marking up), some are jokey (YT). Semi-recently User:JohnnyCanuck went round "seriousifying" the wiki's GOTD pages - Martin Jarvis for example. Clearly, the direction on the wiki has changed, Ben Wilson even specifies here that "it's not like genuine guest pages are serious autobiographies".
- Fifthly: Special episode - why are we using "S" notation for every special episode these days? Mike only used "S" for the cricket specials, and we've got the Chris vs Conor special as Episode 4473 (or something similar). At the end of the day, we have to keep up with the show itself when they mention the amount of episodes done, so have we drastically miscounted, meaning Episode 5987 was indeed Episode 6000?
- Sixthly: Returnees. How can we be sure if a contestant is a returnee or not?
Right, I think that covers everything!! The Doctor 22:21, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
- With regard to your point on my "seriousification" -- I did it because the original version didn't even explain who Martin Jarvis was or what he was famous for. Also, I think this might have been the ONLY example. JohnnyCanuck 22:54, 9 December 2014 (GMT)
"One away"
How is this formatted when Rachel declares "one away", such as Episode 6160? I formatted this as "691/693", but you've overridden this to "693". The Doctor 20:48, 24 June 2015 (BST)
- It's normally either or, but I always check if both ways are possible, and in this case, 691 is impossible. JRTerrier24 19:25, 25 June 2015 (BST)

Numbers round recap question
Hi Robbo, just curious: If a contestant says, e.g., “9 plus 50” in a numbers round answer but Rachel writes “50 + 9” on the board, which order do you take to be the “right” one? I’d like for this to be consistent in my own recaps. JohnnyCanuck 20:57, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
