Dave Cappleman was a contestant in Series 87. He is a retired Software Engineer and lay minister, as well an Apterite.

His wife Catriona, son Tom and daughter-in-law Ruth are all past Countdown winners.

He made his debut on 22 March 2023 against Matt Williams, winning with a score of 86 points to 72. From here, he won a further five games with two centuries and a personal best of 115 points, before being unseated in his seventh game by Gavin Finlay. However, with 621 points overall and in a series where octochamps are sparse, Cappleman has now qualified for the Series 87 finals in June.
