Jonathan Liew was an octochamp in Series 69. He is a columnist for The Daily Telegraph, who usually writes opinion pieces on sports.

Liew began his run with victory over Series 5 semi-finalist June Madell, often showing great skill on six small numbers games. But in a tough series (as well as the strongest at the time), this was enough to qualify him as the No. 6 seed as he returned on 16 December but was defeated by No. 3 seed Glen Webb.

Since his time on Countdown, he has occasionally been seen on TV shows such as MOTD2 Extra when reviewing football headlines.
