Episode 4948 was broadcast on 11 December 2009, and was the second quarter-final of Series 61.

Steve Wood played Chris Davies, with Chris Davies winning 108 – 61. The Dictionary Corner guest was Dr Phil Hammond, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

NOTE: In Round 12, Dictionary Corner did not note that Wood's offering of malter ☓ was invalid. However, this proved irrelevant as Davies offered a longer word anyway.

The audience member who solved the conundrum was Series 60 champion Kirk Bevins.
