8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 9, Episode 1 was a special episode broadcast on 5 August 2016, as part of 8 out of 10 Cats Mash-ups Series 9.

8 Out of 10 Cats regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Henning Wehn and Victoria Coren Mitchell, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Victoria Coren Mitchell, winning by 68 – 25 in an 7-rounder.

Rachel Riley was the arithmetician for this episode. The Dictionary Corner guest was Tom Allen, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Oddly enough, in Round 2, Rachel made a mistake in showing Henning's solution by taking away 75 instead of adding it. Also, despite Jon having declared he obtained the target, he was not asked to show it.

In Round 5, when selecting the letters, Rachel Riley picked up a board with Joe Wilkinson's face, prompting him to come up on stage via a mini-train. Despite this, his face was used as the letter "U" in the selection. As an indirect result, when re-arranging to form Henning's word, the rude word "CUM" was formed on the board.

In Round 6, extra letters were used, making the total number of letters used to be 12.

Pat Sharp, a famous DJ in the 1980s also made a special appearance during Round 3 as well where he was "brought back from the dead".

NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
