He presented the retrospective programme Countdown: The 2000th Edition (not to be confused with the actual Episode 2000, which was a regular show) broadcast on 23 May 1997, and chaired the 1997 Countdown Christmas special, a match between Richard Whiteley and Carol Vorderman.

He died in September 2017.
