Episode CS1997
Episode CS1997 was broadcast on 25 December 1997, as a special episode.
Richard Whiteley played Carol Vorderman (billed as Carol King, her married name), with Carol King winning 43 – 30. The presenter was William G. Stewart, the Dictionary Corner guest was Magnus Magnusson, the lexicographer was Mark Nyman, and the arithmetician was Susie Dent.
The game was a close battle, with Carol King living up to her new regal name by winning on a crucial conundrum. Whiteley later claimed that he had buzzed at the start of the conundrum out of habit, from normally having to press the button to start the clock.
NOTE: King was not asked for her solution in Round 6 – it was assumed she had the same method as Whiteley.
