Episode Cats140

From Countdown

Episode Cats140, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 22, Episode 4, was a special episode broadcast on 28 January 2022, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 22.

The Team Captains were Lee Mack and Jon Richardson, their teammates were Joe Wilkinson and Jessica Knappett respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Jessica Knappett, winning by 46 – 39 in a 7-rounder and they won a Countdown picture hanging kit consisting of a toolbox.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Nigel Ng, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, Jessica introduced her massage therapist, Nada who massaged her before proceeding to do it on Jon who was noticeably uncomfortable and in pain to the point Jimmy had to intervene and ask him to stop.

2) During the 30 seconds in Round 1, Jimmy blew an orange balloon to the point it was so big and his head was inside of it. Eventually, he got up after Joe's declaration to burst it. Later on, Joe himself would go on to spot PILLS. However, it was too late and thus not considered.

3) In Round 4, the original target was 209 which could be easily obtained by doing: 100 × 2 + 9. However, seeing how both Joe and Jessica cheered at the easy target, Jimmy ordered Rachel to press CECIL again which generated the eventual target of 660.

4) Just after Round 4, Nigel discussed about Getti's Spaghetti which became infamous due to how it was cooked [1], to which he surprised everyone by cooking it beforehand and then eating a portion in front of everyone else.

5) Just before Round 5, both Lee and Jon took part in "Carrot in a Box" which simply involved picking the box out of two of them which contained a carrot. Lee could also open his box initially and try to bluff or convince Jon to swap the boxes. Ultimately, Jon decided not to swap and it was revealed he had the empty box all along, causing him to take down the props in anger as he had now lost this game thrice in a row. Thus, Lee won the game, although unlike the previous time this was played, no bonus points were awarded.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: The conundrum had two valid solutions: HEARTLESS and EARTHLESS.
