Co:Lon1019 took place on 22 May 2010 as part of Co:Lon.

Series 84 is the current series of Countdown and the first series presented by Anne Robinson, following Nick Hewer's retirement. It began on the 28th of June 2021 and will conclude in December. Recordings commenced on the 24th of May. One edition in September will be part of Channel 4's "Black To Front" and will feature an all-black on-screen cast. It is unknown if this episode will be a special episode or part of the normal series.

Phil Makepeace played James Robinson, with Phil Makepeace winning 57 - 39. The host was Chris Corby.
Due to Channel 4's live coverage of Friday Practice and Qualifying sessions of the 2021 British Grand Prix, no edition of Countdown will be shown on the 16th of July. When the programme returns on 19th July, Susie Dent will miss ten episodes due to COVID-19 protocols; the guests will adjudicate words in her place. This will mark her first absence from the show since 2008.

Rounds
Rachel Riley announced her second pregnancy on the 14th of April 2021. It is currently unknown what effect this will have on the show; her first simply saw recordings of Series 82 accelerate and then pause for three and a half months. However, given that this meant that the show was only a month and a bit ahead of broadcast at the time of the first COVID-19 lockdown, combined with the fact that they will have to film an episode without her for Black To Front day, means they may just film with her replacement during her second pregnancy; the fact that ten episodes from this series will be missing Susie Dent may mean they opt not to replace her.

Revision as of 17:36, 12 July 2021

The first ever shot with Anne Robinson as the host. She first appeared on Countdown in Dictionary Corner back in 1987.

The series is set to see many celebrities making their debuts as guest in Dictionary Corner. From this series onwards, the long-outdated prize of twenty volumes of the Oxford English Dictionary has been abolished, but the series winner will still have their name engraved on the Richard Whiteley Memorial Trophy. Another feature of the show that has been removed is the clock starter button: to accommodate for Anne's height, the clock is now started in the gallery.

The 12th of July marked the first ever all-female episode of Countdown, after 7,548 regular editions.

Regardless of COVID-19 restrictions, studio audiences will not be returning for any future editions of the programme in any form; this is understood to be a cost-cutting exercise. [1] Meanwhile, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown has since filmed editions with socially-distanced audiences.

Apterite Roger Peak has participated so far, with Apterites due to take part in this series including Florence Cappleman-Lynes, Thomas Lock, Patrick Welsh, Jason Dias, Shireen Hibs, Steven Grady and Mike Lee.

Since Series 60, players are sorted by number of wins, then by number of points. Points from both wins and losses count. Points from sudden death conundrums are not counted, and players with the same number of wins and points are sorted by the number of conundrums correctly guessed, then highest single-game score.
