David Franks was a contestant in Series 47.

Franks is notable as one of the most successful contestants not to make the quarter-finals. He ran off 7 consecutive wins including a score of 102 and one of 108 before facing future octochamp Lee Hartley. The game wasn't close, Hartley won with a score of 117 and went on to win 7 more heat games. Franks looked a likely candidate to be a series quarter-finalist, but wasn't invited back because there were 8 octochamps in Series 47, one of which was Lee Hartley. In win-point (seeding) order, Franks was the #9 seeded contestant of Series 47 – the best-ever performance for a contestant who failed to qualify for a series finals until Corrina Attwood’s octochampdom in Series 81.
