He won four games before losing to eventual series champion Barry Grossman, which was enough to qualify him for the end-of-series finals in late March, where he reached the semi-finals, in which he lost to Jackie McLeod, meaning he lost to both series finalists.
A musician who records as part of the band The Bevis Frond, he turned up with a tape of his arrangement of the Countdown theme, which was played during one of his appearances and can be viewed here.
