Phil Watson was a semi-finalist in Series 55. He was a retired actuary from Biggin Hill, Kent.

Watson qualified for the series finals thanks to six wins, and met number one seed Steven Briers in the quarter-final. Watson had a ten-point lead going into the conundrum, which nobody could solve. However, he lost in the semi-final to eventual runner-up Tony Warren on another crucial conundrum. Watson is the only number eight seed to date to have won a quarter-final in the 15-round era.
