Episode 868 was broadcast on 10 July 1989, as part of Series 18.
Rajaretnam Yogasagarar played Monica Kirby, with Rajaretnam Yogasagarar winning 59 – 36. The Dictionary Corner guest was Richard Stilgoe, and the lexicographer was Della Thompson.
This was the first episode to feature the brown set, red-lettered tiles, the clock music that has remained in place to this day, and Carol Vorderman putting up the letters and the numbers.
