Episode 4507 was broadcast on 20 December 2007 as part of Series 57.
Steve Baines played Jeffrey Hansford, with Jeffrey Hansford winning 81 – 66. The Dictionary Corner guest was Pam Ayres, and the lexicographer was Alison Heard.
Hansford adopted his usual tactic of buzzing immediately on the conundrum, but on this occasion was too slow to answer. Just as presenter Des O'Connor went to restart the clock, Hansford announced the answer correctly as MALACHITE, but despite hearing the answer from his opponent, Baines declined to buzz in. This act of sportsmanship was widely lauded by the show's audience. Baines has since said that he would not have buzzed even had the conundrum been crucial.
