Episode 867 was broadcast on 17 March 1989, and was the Series 17 grand final.
Evan Simpson played Lawrence Pearse, with Lawrence Pearse winning 80 – 64. The Dictionary Corner guests were Ned Sherrin and Frazer Hines, and the lexicographer was Freda Thornton.
This was the final episode on the original coloured-tile set, and was also the final episode to feature not only Lucy Summers, but the concept of a "letters girl" at all, with the roles of "letters girl" and "vital statistician" being amalgamated into one person for the following episode, namely Carol Vorderman.
