8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 4, Episode 5 was a special episode broadcast on 4 July 2014, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 4.
8 Out of 10 Cats regulars Jon Richardson and Sean Lock were the contestants, along with Jo Brand and Claudia Winkleman who were their teammates, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.
The match saw Sean Lock, with the assistance of Jo Brand, winning by 39 – 35 in an 8-rounder and they won a Countdown "talking" dictionary with Susie narrating and the examples mentioned were the invalid word wagwan ☓ and BUTTERS although the definition was the slang term.
Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician, and Joe Wilkinson helped her out from round 5 onwards. The Dictionary Corner guest was Bill Bailey, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
NOTE 2: With the start of Series 71 five days earlier, the official dictionary was switched from OED3 to ODO. The show did not follow suit and continued to use the former until 23 December 2018. However, with this change, all references for the Maximums for the Letters Round will be referred to using the latter dictionary from this episode onwards.
