8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 5, Episode 1 was a special episode broadcast on 29 December 2014, as part of 8 out of 10 Cats Mash-ups Series 5, set up as a Christmas special.

8 Out of 10 Cats regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Kathy Burke and David Baddiel who were their teammates, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of David Baddiel, winning by 38 – 28 in a slight modification of the 7 round format (LNLNLLC).

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician, and Joe Wilkinson helped her out from round 5 onwards. The Dictionary Corner guest was Alex Horne (accompanied by his band, The Horne Section), and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
