Callum Ridley in Series 93.

Callum Ridley was an octochamp in Series 93. He was from Witham, Essex and noted to be a passionate follower of Witham Town F.C. He will almost certainly be back for the end-of-series finals in June.

Heat games

Making his debut two days after Daniel Face secured octochampdom, he had a very tough proposition with Nigel Marchington. It took a misdeclaration on a final six-small numbers round from Nigel for Callum to officially pull clear, and he topped it off by spotting RUBBISHED from HIDEBURBS to earn a teapot as well as a century. He followed that up with seven further victories including two more centuries. Of particular note, he spotted six nine-letter-words throughout his heats: UNGODLIER twice within consecutive games, UNWAISTED, EQUATIONS, CUSTODIAL and PRESUMING.

He finished with 784 points to sneak ahead of Megel Barker as the No. 2 seed for the time being, while also being the third octochamp of the series within five weeks. He was then anointed as "The Talent" (a short-form version of "The Talented Mr. Ridley") by Rachel Riley, for one final acknowledgement of his achievements to date. Ridley became the first octochamp since Joe Dobinson in November 2022 to win eight consecutive games with more than one presenter, as well as the second after Quinn Bartlett in August 2022 to win eight consecutive games with editions presented by Colin Murray and Les Dennis.
