Episode Cats146, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 23, Episode 4, was a special episode broadcast on 19 August 2022, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 23.

The Team Captains were Richard Ayoade and Jon Richardson, their teammates were Sara Pascoe and Chris McCausland respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Chris McCausland, winning by 35 – 11 in a 7-rounder and they won a Countdown wheelie bin.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Morgana Robinson (pretending to be Annabel, a sweat lodge assistant and bee whisperer), and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the 30 seconds in Round 1, Jimmy played around with a claw machine, only for a larger-sized claw to pick up "Susie" and "drop" her from a height after he claimed the machine was not working. Later on, after Richard declared his invalid word, Rachel cheekily arranged it around to spell BLUEPENIS in a reference to Chris' segment during the Introduction about testicles.

2) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, Fabio, the show's permanent male model, accidentally "sliced" his finger off during a fruit carving competition while cutting a pineapple, resulting in "blood" being squirted out. Later on, apart from Jimmy's face carved out on a watermelon, he revealed that he had various fruits with all the contestants' faces carved out; Sara on a grapefruit, Chris on a melon, Richard on an avocado and Jon on a satsuma. It was also revealed Sara had HOARDER and the invalid heralder ☓ as words, but as she was not playing the round, these were not considered.

3) In Round 5, to allow the celebrities to simulate how Chris felt like playing thus far, everyone except Chris wore blindfolds and played together. After Richard declared his word in that same round, Jimmy tried to scare Jon but failed as the latter heard him coming towards him.

4) In Round 6, the clock music was replaced with Turn Down for What by DJ Snake and Lil Jon. At the same time, "Jimmy" performed several stunts using a hoverboard at the centre of the studio.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: Chris' declaration of 1080 in Round 4 is based on his method of: 100 × 8 + 7 × 5 × 8. Furthermore, during the conundrum, because Chris was blind, it had to be revealed before the time started to allow Jimmy to say to him what was on the board. To aid him further, Jimmy would repeat saying it at certain time intervals.

NOTE 3: In Round 6, Jon's declaration of RESTITCH should have been allowed as it is in the ODP. However, this would not have impacted the final outcome as Chris had a valid eight-letter word.
