Series 88 is the current series of Countdown, and the fourth series to feature Colin Murray as presenter. It began on 30 June 2023, and will conclude in December.

Adrian Clarke, who won the final preliminary match of Series 87, returned to continue his run in the first heat of this series.

Episode 8056 was broadcast five minutes earlier at 14:05 to accommodate the live second practice of the 2023 British Grand Prix.

Apterites Tom Swain, Harry Savage, Sam Hughes, Dean Tulloch and Josh Lester have appeared in this series.

Former presenter Jeff Stelling appeared in Dictionary Corner for the week commencing 21 August, marking his first appearance on the show since he left as presenter in 2011.
