Shemina Kirby

Shemina Kirby, 18 years after her first appearance, in Series 92.

Shemina 'Shem' Kirby was a contestant in Series 57, and a quarter-finalist in Series 92. At the time of both of her appearances, she was a biomedical scientist from Oxfordshire.

In her 2007 appearance, she unluckily ran into eventual octochamp and series winner Craig Beevers; the latter ultimately defeated Kirby without too much trouble.

But upon her return almost eighteen years later, she made a much greater mark by securing her teapot with thanks to a closely fought victory over Mel Smith in the first show of Series 92. She then followed it up with six further victories, before just losing out on octochampdom to Chas McLaughlin.

Her seven wins were eventually enough to qualify for the series finals as the eighth seed against the No. 1 seed and eventual series winner, Jase Cullen. Unfortunately in the aforementioned encounter, Cullen had far too much in the tank and powered away to a very dominant victory that was similar to Beevers' performance in Kirby's first match on the eve of Countdown's and Channel 4's 25th birthday. This meant that Shemina was knocked out for a second time, coincidentally to the series winner again and finished with 698 points from ten games in her overall appearances.
