This episode introduced the orange variant of the "wings" set, replacing the blue version used between Series 31 and 41.

Episode 2674 was broadcast on 27 December 1999, and was the first quarter-final of Championship of Champions X.

Simon Cooper played Terence English, with Terence English winning 58 – 39. The Dictionary Corner guest was Nigel Rees, and the lexicographer was Mark Nyman.

This was the first episode to be broadcast in the now-standard 16:9 aspect ratio, replacing the 4:3 aspect. It was also the first to feature the orange variant of the "wings" set design — the third and final colour scheme of the configuration.
