Chris Hawkins

Chris Hawkins was a finalist in Series 28 and a participant in the 30th Birthday Championship.

A Scrabble expert, Hawkins won four games and accumulated 305 points during his run. He returned for the finals as number 6 seed, where he lost by 1 point to eventual champion and producer Damian Eadie on the unsolved crucial conundrum AIDACRETE.

He returned to the Countdown world 13 years later, for the unofficial COLIN 2007 tournament, and again at Co:MK in 2018.

He returned to Countdown in 2013, as one of 41 contestants taking part in the 30th Birthday Championship. He received a bye to the first round and won his first game against Series 38 quarter-finalist Jill Bright by a score of 95 – 51, before losing to a max game achieved by Series 54 champion Conor Travers. Travers went on to win that series too, meaning both of Hawkins’s defeats have been to the eventual champion.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic which resulted in reruns of the 30th Birthday Championship being aired, his games were not rerun at his request.

Hawkins has also been a contestant on 100%. He won one game, but lost the subsequent game on a tiebreak question.
