Episode Cats148

From Countdown
Revision as of 00:38, 14 September 2022 by Andres Sanchez (talk | contribs) (just a lil fix)

Episode Cats148, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 23, Episode 6, was a special episode broadcast on 2 September 2022, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 23.

The Team Captains were Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr, their teammates were Russell Kane and Judi Love respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jonathan Ross, with the assistance of Russell Kane, winning by 48 – 28 in a 7-rounder and they won a pair of Countdown jigsaw which was a portrait of Jimmy's face.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Josh Jones, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, a clip of the recently released Moon Knight was shown where Oscar Isaac was seen imitating Russell's voice. Later, the latter provided a separate anecdote of his wife's wardrobe malfunction which was broadcast to those present at the 2019 Prince's Trust Awards. [1]

2) In Rounds 2 and 4, influenced by Judi's method of selecting the numbers, Rachel placed them in a non-sequential order. Additionally, in Round 2, Jonathan initially declared 648 but realised he had 649, yet at Jimmy's discretion, this was allowed.

3) In Round 3, Jimmy attempted to jump over Susie (who was underneath a ramp) with a skateboard, but failed as he tripped over the centre piece in the middle of the studio and crashed into the table. Nevertheless, Fabio, the show's permanent male model, popped confetti with the audience applauding.

4) In Round 5, it was dubbed a Tension Round; points were doubled, the clock music was replaced with a techno version of it coupled with sirens, flames and a voice counting down from ten was heard as well. When the time was up, confetti shot out, however no one was scared as they had all been done so beforehand. Thus, the maximum was worth 16 points in this case.

In that same round, a blooper occurred where Jimmy started the round without any letters selected before everyone pointed out his mistake and Rachel threw out a second U and replaced it with the O as the audience groaned. Had that not happened, the maximum would have been worth 14 points instead.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: Russell is the first person (excluding Susie and Rachel) to appear on both this version of the show and the normal version on the same day, having appeared in Episode 7841 as the Dictionary Corner guest that afternoon.
