8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 5, Episode 3 was a special episode broadcast on 16 January 2015, as part of 8 out of 10 Cats Mash-ups Series 5.
8 Out of 10 Cats regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Roisin Conaty and Jack Whitehall who were their teammates, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.
The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Jack Whitehall, winning by 890 – 28 in a slight modification of the 7 round format (LNLNLLC). (The size of the winning score achieved primarily due to the fact that the conundrum for this episode only was worth 843 points, as that was the amount needed by Richardson to beat Conor Travers' record numbers of points scored in the history of Countdown.)
Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician, and Joe Wilkinson helped her out from round 5 onwards. The Dictionary Corner guest was Rob Beckett, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
NOTE: The conundrum was originally MINGECRAB, which Richardson buzzed in to answer, only for Whitehall to say he didn't know, although Richardson did know that it was EMBRACING, so rather than hand it over to the other team, who clearly knew the answer, Carr decided to make another conundrum.
