Paul Kerry was a contestant in Series 40. He was a 26-year-old offshore oil engineer from Washington, Tyne & Wear.

He was the last defeated champion of the series before the quarter finals, and having begun a run of five straight victories just over a week earlier with a win over #3 seed Pamela Roud, he narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter-finals by just 13 points after losing his sixth game by just two points to Bobby Johnson with only one further heat game left before the quarter-finals - however, Kerry admitted there and then that had he won this episode and gone on to win the next, and last, heat episode of the series, he would have returned in Series 41 to try and continue his unbeaten run and become an octochamp, rather than contend in the series quarter-finals.
