Annie Humphries in Series 75...

and again in Series 76.

Annie Humphries was a finalist in Series 76 who became an octochamp in Series 75. She was a retired teacher from Basildon, Essex, and is thought to be the first laryngectomee to appear on the programme, and speaks through a voice prosthesis.

She debuted on 5th August 2016 and achieved three centuries during her octochamp run to qualify for the Series 75 finals, averaging 97 per game. However, she was unable to attend the finals' recording dates. In a December 2016 tweet, the show's producers confirmed that Humphries would instead be added to the list of people eligible for the Series 76 finals in June 2017.[1]

Humphries ultimately qualified for these finals as #5 seed. In her quarter-final appearance, she prevailed over #4-ranked Elliott Mack, beating him in three letters rounds with findings of PRIMULA, CLASSIER and ROMANIZE to seal victory prior to the conundrum. She thus advanced to the semi-finals against #1 prospect Stephen Read. Here, she suffered her only ever defeat as Read amassed 115 points and maxed all but two rounds, though she did beat him and go into the lead briefly in one of them. When filming her finals episodes, Humphries invited Cammy Lovatt, whom she defeated in order to start her octochamp run, back to the studio.

Humphries was invited to partake in Championship of Champions XV, but was unable to attend due to her holiday to Turkey.
