Episode Cats120

From Countdown

Episode Cats120, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 19, Episode 1 was a special episode broadcast on 9 January 2020, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 19.

Regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Harry Hill and Rose Matafeo who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

This episode was broadcast the same day as Episode 7237 and Episode C14, making it the first time that three episodes have premiered on the same day.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Rose Matafeo, winning by 51 – 22 in a 7-rounder thanks to the conundrum being worth 15 points in a failed attempt to let Sean's team win and they won a Countdown shopping trolley.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Alex Horne & the Horne Section, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, Jon "solved" a Mathematical equation on the Board that involved many references to singers and songs alike.

2) During the 30 seconds in Round 1, while Jimmy was attempting to roast a sausage, parts of the studio "caught fire" such as his teapot and the area where he was approximately sitting. All the celebrities were subsequently given hamburgers to enjoy.

3) Likewise in previous episodes, the Horne Section played various pieces throughout the show. Most notably, they were a jazzed up version of the clock music in Round 2 with an anti-climatic gong at the end, a song involving taking off clothes for the anecdote just after Round 4 (which also involved Alex purportedly performing in the centre of the studio with a large hat concealing his body as he was absent from the band) and two short songs involving Henry Hoover (which also involved one of his band members dressed as the vacuum cleaner itself).

NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
