Phil Watson was a finalist in Series 55. He qualified for the series finals thanks to 6 wins, and met #1 seed Steven Briers in the quarter-final. The game was tied going into the conundrum, which Watson solved. However, he lost in the semi-final to eventual runner-up Tony Warren.

After Briers win at the Championship of Champions XIII, Watson is the only player every to beat Briers, in the 13 games that Briers played.
