Matthew Shore was a contestant in series 54, first appearing on 17 february 2006 where he beat Alexia McCluskey 109-55. He won his next seven games to become an octochamp with an impressive total of 850 points. He returned for the final rounds, where he defeated fellow octochamps Michael Bowden and Jon Corby before being beaten in the grand final by boy wonder Conor Travers. He returned the very next week for Championship of Champions XII, where he defeated Chris Cummins in the first round before losing the following day to Mark Tournoff Episode 4121, setting a new record for both the highest 1-game aggregate score and the highest ever losing score in Countdown history, records Matthew holds to this day.
