Elliott Mellor played John Hadfield, with Elliott Mellor winning 152 – 40. The Dictionary Corner guest was Dr Phil Hammond, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

NOTE 1: Mellor's score of 152 broke the former record of the highest score ever on Countdown, held by Zarte Siempre with 150 during Championship of Champions XV. Furthermore, his score was the highest ever achieved by spotting three nine-letter words until it was broken by Tom Stevenson on 29 September 2022.

NOTE 2: The winning margin of 112 points was the joint-largest and equalling-winning margin on 16 May 2011 by Tom Barnes, and on 24 March 2015 by Tom Cappleman respectively. Only five days later, this record was broken by Mellor with a margin of 133 points.
