Episode Cats156, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 25, Episode 4 in the UK and Series 16, Episode 5 in international markets, was a special episode broadcast on 2 February 2024, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 25.
The Team Captains were Joe Lycett and Sarah Millican, their teammates were Judi Love and Rhod Gilbert respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.
The match saw Joe Lycett, with the assistance of Judi Love, winning by 32 – 19 in a 7-rounder and they won a Countdown melodica.
Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Jazz Emu, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
Just before Round 5, the teams took part in "Didn't Go to University Challenge" involving general trivia. Rhod's team won the game as Sarah had mimicked the accent she was tasked to in the best possible way as judged by Susie, coupled with no one getting the first question correctly, thus five points were awarded to his team.
Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:
1) During the Introduction, Rhod unveiled his mascot, Jimmy, which was an uncredited person dressed in a large phallic costume and came on set with Jimmy's style of laughter. In a cheeky swipe, Joe asked him if he would like to donate a urine sample in a reference to him purportedly collecting celebrities' urine samples. The mascot was ironically, eventually led off the stage Jimmy himself shortly after.
2) In Round 1, the clock music was replaced by an acapella version sung by Jimmy along with four uncredited men dressed in robes behind the celebrities.
3) In Round 2, Sarah originally declared she had 564 but actually had 566. Points were awarded at Jimmy's discretion as she was still one away from the target despite the misdeclaration. Later in Round 6, she was also awarded the points despite declaring she had a five-letter word initially.
4) In Round 3, with the exception of Rachel and Jazz, photos of the celebrities when they were younger were shown on screen, with most of them in a scrapbook Jimmy was holding.
5) During the 30 seconds in Round 6, Jimmy ate oysters and was served by Fabio, the show's permanent male model. Later on, he felt "unwell" and proceeded to "vomit" at Fabio's face instead of the bucket he was holding.
NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
NOTE 2: In Round 4, Joe and Sarah assisted both their teammates respectively and obtained 229 and 230, with the former having the solution: 100 + 75 + 50 + 9 − 5. Therefore, as this was considered cheating, both Judi and Rhod's declarations are listed as blank and no points were awarded.
