Mike Daysley was an octochamp and the champion of Series 79. He is an Accounts Assistant from Hull. He is also an Apterite.

He made his debut against Tealin Glenn on 3 October 2018 scoring a strong 110 to Glenn's 87. He then put a further 7 impressive victories with 4 scores in the 90's and 3 centuries. In his 7th game, he played a close game, losing the lead frequently but retained it in the last numbers game. In his last game he earned his third century and became the No. 2 seed for the series finals.

Daysley returned for the finals in December 2018. He started against number 7 seed Adam Rolston. The pair started off level but Daysley took up speed in the second half of the show and eventually won with a strong total of 104 to Rolston's 58.

Daylsey then returned for the semi-finals and his opponent was number 6 seed Alan Duval. In a highly anticipated game, the pair started off slowly until the second half, when thanks to his 3 large and 3 small number tactics, Duval went ahead by 7 points. However, eventually in the third half of the show, Daysley began to pick up pace as Duval began to fall apart and eventually Daysley ran ahead and solved the conundrum, booking his spot in the series final.

In the final, Daysley played a close run game against the number one seed Martin May. Level pegging until round 7, Daysley played the invalid scopier ☓, falling 6 points behind. Despite May putting a further 16 points between the two finalists in rounds 10 and 11, Daysley risked OUTHAUL in round 12 which put him back into a crucial margin. May and Daysley found PANNED in round 13, which led into a very doable 2 large numbers game. Finally, in a thrilling conclusion to the series, Daysley solved the crucial conundrum PHOTOFORM in around 7 seconds, winning with a score of 82 – 80. He thus became series champion – the first non-800 club member to do so since Callum Todd in Series 69 – and was given the Richard Whiteley Memorial Trophy. Daysley did not return for the Championship of Champions XVI, therefore his unbeaten record remains to this day.
