Series 45 ran from 2 July to 21 September 2001. The 45th of 53 series presented by Richard Whiteley, was won by John Rawnsley.

This series was shortened to make way for the 15-round format and didn't have any quarter-finals, just semi-finals and a final.

This series is also the latest to not have any octochamps (with the exception of the following series, which had viscounts due to it being a short series as well).

The finals of this series went completely true to the seedings (i.e. the higher seed always beat the lower seed, with no upsets).

NOTE: Geraldine Hylands was undefeated at the end of the series and thus, her 355 points came from seven games whereas Rawnsley's 409 came from eight. But due to the wrongful allowance of Rawnsley's offering of MALTIER in his sixth game, his total should have been 402 points.
Between Series 38 and Series 59, players were sorted by number of wins, then by number of points. Points from both wins and losses count. Points from sudden death conundrums were not counted, and players with the same number of wins and points were sorted by highest score.
