CoLei 2008 was the inaugural Countdown in Leicester unofficial Countdown tournament. It was held on Saturday, 30 August 2008 at the The Stoneycroft Hotel in Leicester. There were nine participants, all of whom had previously appeared on the programme, and the event was won by Series 52 champion Mark Tournoff. The line-up included a total of three series winners: Tournoff, Ben Wilson from Series 46, and Kirk Bevins who would go on to win Series 60 in 2009.
Contents
Format
The competition was held over six games. The tournament ran as follows:
- Participants play a 14-round qualifying game, from which seeds are drawn based on points scored.
- Players are split into three groups of three, to each play two games and watch a third.
- The groups are recast to form finals groups A, B and C.
- A further two games are played and a third game watched by the competitors.
- Final standings are calculated based on each player's overall number of games won and then points scored.
