Jo Brand is a stand-up comic and regular Dictionary Corner guest, and is noted by the producers as being one of few celebrities who would be capable of holding their own on the show (which was demonstrated in the second episode of the celebrity series). As such, it is entirely believable that she does indeed spot the words she lays claim to… particularly the nonsensical ones.
Brand was first revealed to be a Countdown fan when she appeared on the special retrospective programme The 2000th Edition in 1997.
She, Pam Ayres, Nicholas Owen, Paul Zenon and Richard Digance are the only people to have guested on episodes presented by Richard Whiteley, Des Lynam, Des O'Connor, Jeff Stelling and Nick Hewer, although she was also a contestant on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (presented by Jimmy Carr).
She took over Rachel's job for the final numbers round in Episode C11, in so doing making it look difficult.
