ZoomDown

From Countdown
Revision as of 13:40, 12 May 2020 by The Doctor (talk | contribs)

ZoomDown is a version of Countdown streamed live using "Zoom" video conferencing software. It was introduced during the COVID-19 lockdown by Series 81 6-time winner, Paul Anderson, who also acts as the host. It featured Callum Todd in dictionary corner in the first six episodes. Episode seven onward sees James Rowan in the DC role, and Fiona Titcombe operating the technical aspect of production.

The format is similar to a countdown series, with the winner staying on for up to four games, at which point they become a ZoomDown tetrachamp. The games are shown live on YouTube on Mondays at 8 pm and Thursdays at 8:05 pm. In addition to the series, special episodes are planned - the first of these will feature a mini-Hyper tournament between four players, and will be shown on Friday 15th May at 8 pm.

A record of the games and standings can be seen below. All games can be watched on YouTube at [1].

The show follows seeding rules from the modern era of Countdown. Namely, since Series 64, players are sorted by number of wins, then by number of points. Points from both wins and losses count. Points from sudden death conundrums are not counted, and players with the same number of wins and points are sorted by the number of conundrums correctly guessed, then highest individual score.
