A century is an occurrence of a player scoring 100 points. This was never achieved in the 9 round format as it required the players to find at least 3 nine letter words in the 6 letters rounds available. However before the 15 round era, centuries were possible in 14 round games, as well as in the Countdown Masters series, where Richard Whiteley often called players that achieved them centurions.
Centuries have become relatively common in 15 round games. The first ever century was by Clive Spate in the final of Series 8. He scored 107 points in the 14 round game. The first ever century in a 15 round game was by Ian McMenzie in the 4th game of Series 46.
